During your first visit, we will take a detailed history of your chief complaint so that we can determine the circumstances that led to your symptoms. We will also check your vital signs and use traditional Chinese medicine’s diagnostic methods to assess your problem.

     Next, we will explain to you your acupuncture diagnosis, using a chart to illustrate the relationship between certain disorders and energy pathways, or meridians. This will determine which acupuncture points on your body need to be stimulated.
We will then insert very fine, hair-thin needles into specific points on your body. The sensation feels like a tiny pinch. Sometimes, it is barely felt at all; other times, patients feel a slight electrical sensation.We also provide modalities, or supportive therapies, to enhance acupuncture’s effects. We may use gentle electrical stimulation, infrared (heat), moxibustion, and vacuum cupping during your visit. 

      In addition, we may prescribe special Chinese herbs to augment your acupuncture treatment and help your body function optimally.

      A typical acupuncture session is about 30-50 minutes long. You will spend much of the time lying down in a comfortable position while the acupuncture needles do the work.
You can expect to feel more relaxed and have less pain after each session. The number of recommended treatments varies, but a typical treatment plan can range from five to twelve visits. More serious cases can require additional visits.
