What Do Other Acupuncturist Feel About Us  

As I embark on my new career as an acupuncturist, I reflect on those who have given me the knowledge I now posses. I am currently starting my business and I am overwhelmed with all the paperwork I must get done to practice the wonderful art of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). I am, however, comforted by the fact that I feel ready to help those in need of better health.

I remember the first days of my career at Samra University when I was in Dr. Zhao’s Introductory Botany class. Everything in the beginning was so confusing and so different from Western medicine. Slowly, the information began to make sense and come together each quarter. I enjoyed her classes and learned so much. Dr. Zhao’s love of teaching and her passion for herbology were evident from the beginning. As she would compare different herbs and tell us stories of when she was younger and living in China, herbology came alive. Having to learn Chinese terminology was difficult. In addition to the learning the Chinese names of herbs, which have no meaning to an English speaking person, we had to learn the functions, indications and channels. Dr. Zhao was able to teach us the importance of each herb and have it become useful in practice. During school I would mix different raw herbs at home to practice what I had learned. My husband jokingly referred to me as the “Voodoo doctor.” I am very proud to be able to construct a formula today and have it work with the desired effect without any mystical magic.

Dr. Min Shi was an excellent professor. He is a knowledgeable, intelligent and experienced practitioner of TCM. I learned much of my acupuncture theory and application from him. I appreciate all the preparation he did for his classes. His examinations were challenging and very well written.

I also enjoyed Dr. Zhao as a clinic supervisor. Not only did I learn the application of TCM, I learned the subtleties of dealing with patients. There is far more than just sticking people with needles and hoping they will get better. There is the art of patient care.

I am currently utilizing acupuncture and herbs for my own practice. I feel prepared to treat patients with the knowledge imparted by these two wonderful professors, Dr. Shi and Dr. Zhao Thank you both for your generosity in teaching.

Migraine

I developed a migraine headache that lasted for over 45 days, seeing every doctor I could, including a psychiatrist, neurologist, allergist and dentist with no relief.  I finally found my way to Dragon Acupuncture Center.  For the first time in 7 weeks I started to feel better and within 2 weeks of treatment I was back to my old self.  I can't begin to recommend Prof Min Shi and Prof Huifang Zhao highly enough.  For those who have had migraines can tell you there is nothing worse.  If only I had not wasted precious time and money the quality of my life would have been returned far sooner.   They truly are the best.

Headache, Shingles

Neck Pain, Pinched Nerve  

Prof. Min Shi:
Just wanted to take a moment and give you an update with regards to my health condition.  As you know, I came into your office last December, 2008 hunched over with an impaired gait, suffering from severe chronic pain and gastrointestinal problems. The pain was resultant of a pinched nerve in my cervical spine, which radiated down through my left shoulder, arm and hand.  Gastrointestinal problems were resultant from taking up to 8,000 to 10,000 mgs. of prescription as well as OTC pain medications a day.  Additionally, I was unable to drive a motor vehicle or do much of anything else due to pain and use of pain medication.  After a brief consultation, you administered your first treatment to me.  I was able to walk out of your office upright with a normal gait and reduced pain.  I continued to receive your treatments for pain, as well as taking herbal supplements for gastrointestinal problems, for approximately two and half months.  Resultant of your of your intervention, I was able to significantly reduce use of prescription and OTC pain medication. Consequently, I was able to manage pain levels so as to regain some normalcy with regards to day to day living.  I was able to drive, albeit on a limited basis (45-60 minutes at a time) and gastrointestinal problems were more manageable.

In conclusion, your treatments and herb supplements allowed me to function on a somewhat normal basis.  While you were clear in the fact you could not “fix” the actual musculoskeletal condition (pinched nerve due to cervical spine compression), you were able to provide blessed relief until actual cervical spine fusion surgery was performed.  Initially, your treatments were twice a week, then once a week and finally once every ten days as this was all that was needed to manage the pain. 

As an interesting side note, during a post-op check with my surgeon, he was quite surprised to see I had recovered some of my cervical nerve reflexes in my left arm.  He stated that under most circumstances, once the reflex nerve has died it does not regenerate.  I was very happy to hear the news, but not surprised.  It is my firm belief that the particular nerve as well as the others, were regenerating/repairing themselves so successfully due to your treatments.  I believe your treatments kept those nerves and subsequent muscle groups alive when they otherwise would have died off due to cervical nerve impingement.  You were very astute at identifying nerve pathways and providing specific treatments to those areas.  As you may recall, it was when I was receiving the full spectrum of needles and/or electrical/heat stimulation that I was the most pain free and relaxed to the point that on more than one occasion I would fall asleep!

Bulge Disc, Low Back Pain 

I want to express my sincere appreciation and THANK YOU for your outstanding knowledge and artful practice of Acupuncture. Your professionalism and understanding of what your patients endure were instrumental to my success.

My story may be similar to many clients.  However, my situation had reached dire straits. I had gone through four back surgeries in three years, which ultimately led to the fusion of L4-L5-S1 vertebrates. I had experienced relief to the symptoms prior to back surgery, but I had gained several new aches and pains.  My condition was so extreme that I could not return to work nor could I perform the normal daily tasks required by a father or husband.

After trying traditional Western medicine treatments, which included prescription drugs (that ate holes in my stomach), physical therapy, water therapy, etc… I then decided, after being out of work for 20 months, I needed to reach out and try something that I was somewhat skeptical about, Acupuncture.  My first thought about Acupuncture was “needles, no thanks!”  But after doing some research and reading about all the success stories and learning that most insurance companies approve this treatment, I figured that I would start interviewing Acupuncturists.

This is where my story makes a complete turnaround.  While interviewing Doctor Shi, he helped me understand the “process” of Acupuncture.  He explained that results vary from patient to patient. I appreciated his honesty and that he took the time to answer my questions, and he did not try to “push” his practice on me (unlike many surgeons whom I’ve encountered.)

So, I embraced this “process” for the next four weeks and to make a long story short, I was back to work within five weeks of receiving Acupuncture treatment.  WOW!  I was impressed.  My pain was gone and I could function again.  I had the mobility that I lacked; my attitude was great and my family actually said “welcome back, Dad.”  I couldn’t wait to share this news with my family, my surgeon, and all those who supported me throughout the agony.

Bulge Disc, Low Back Pain 

Before seeing Dr. Zhao, I was always afraid of acupuncture. I have never liked needles and I didn't understand the philosophy behind acupuncture.  I had been seeing a spinal specialist for a few years because I have spinal stenosis and frequently bulge discs due to my condition.  My spinal specialist treated me with pain pills, muscle relaxers, and steroid injections in my spine.  This treatment made me sick, and I worried about the side affects.  While getting a steroid injection in my back at a hospital, a nurse suggested I look into alternative medicine.  I had a friend who had seen Dr. Zhao because of three failed back surgeries.  After years of back pain, he finally found relief.

I finally decided to give acupuncture a try.  During my first visit Dr. Zhao could tell that I was nervous and she was very patient with me.  She explained how acupuncture works and relieved my anxiety.  It took only one visit to convince me that acupuncture works and it is not scary or painful. 

My first visit to see Dr. Zhao I was hunched over and could barely walk.  When I left her office, I was walking upright and in a lot less pain.  I did not need pain pills and I recovered a lot quicker from my bulged discs.  I have continued to see Dr. Zhao for my back, as well as for other conditions.  I recently bulged three discs in my back and before seeing Dr. Zhao was in a great deal of pain.  After the first visit, my pain was lessened considerable.  My MD could not believe that I did not need pain medication after seeing the results of my MRI. 

I am always amazed at how much the treatment helps, and grateful for Dr. Zhao's compassion and expertise.  Dr. Zhao is not just a great doctor, but an honest, compassionate person who truly cares about her patients.

Low Back Pain, Herniated Disc

I am forever grateful for the care you have given me. As an active 35 year old male, I suffered a herniated disc on Dec 18, 2008 which was the worst injury in my life. The herniated disc was a result of trying to lift too much weight in the gym. An MRI showed that it was a sequestered and extruded disc at L5-S1 and that it was pressing up against my spine causing numbness, tingling, and weakness in my left leg. My orthopedic doctor wanted to perform surgery right away based on the severity shown in the MRI. I decided to hold off on surgery and pursue a non-invasive approach thru acupuncture, water therapy (daily walking exercises in a swimming pool), and rest.
It has been almost 3 months of recovery since the injury and my back has significantly improved w/o undergoing back surgery. The numbness is gone, I no longer walk with a limp, and I am able to walk up a stairwell normally now. I am able to do this thanks to you and the acupuncture therapy that you have given me. Low Back Pain, Bulging Disc 

I have dealt with pack pain for close to 20 years. MRI’s have shown three bulging discs in the lumbar spine. For the most part, I have been able to manage the pain by doing exercise and yoga to build up, and keep strong, the support muscles around these discs. But occasionally, my back has locked up and gone into painful muscle spasms. These flare-ups are very debilitating! Medical doctors have attempted to help me by prescribing physical therapy, muscle relaxers, and painkillers. I always got very sick from these medicines, and my back still didn’t get better for a week of more. Physical therapy helped somewhat but it took a long time.

Recently, when I experienced one of these untimely lumbar spasms, I decided to try acupuncture. When I came to see you, I could barely move, without an electric pain shooting down my leg. My husband had to help me get in and out of the car, and walking was difficult. You immediately placed three needles on my left hand, and told me to bend forward, then backward, then side-to-side. To my surprise, I was able to move in all directions. I was also able to easily walk down the hall, sit down, stand up, and even do some squats, upon your instruction. I was utterly amazed! I was happy that my husband, Paul, was with me to witness this incredible “healing”, because I was sure that no one would believe me. Twenty minutes after arriving at your office, I walked (almost bounced) out the door, pain free!

I have shared this story with many people, including the neurologists, for whom I used to work. They agreed with me that ACUPUNCTURE WORKS!!!

Low Back Pain  

I have been in pain for over 2 years. I went to many doctors for my pain, everyone would say we can take care of it but, the pain never got better. Then one day I was talking to someone at the health food store and they told me about acupuncture. I came home and searched for a good doctor, and I came across Dr. Shi & Dr Zhao .I read their profile and I knew I wanted them to treat me. I made my appointment with Dr Shi, and that was the best thing that happened to me. I have been under his care for about 2 months, and I am happy to say I am feeling good now. Dr Shi, is very devoted to his patient. In the 2 months of treatment I had many other health problems, which he has helped me with. Nerve Pain, Intercostal Neuralgia

Thank you such much for helping to relieve my nerve pain. I have been suffering from chronic pain in my left side since Nov. 2008. I have been to four different medical doctors trying to get the right diagnosis. I was first told the rib cage pain was due to the UC'1'll autoimmune system problem that I have. Then I was told it was simply an inflamed rib cage disorder, and next I was told it was shingles pain. I saw a neurologist yesterday who thinks it may be a nerve that is compressed in my thoracic spine, and he has ordered a MRI. I have been taking 5 different prescription pain killers, and all it does is mask the pain, and make me very sleepy and unable to function.

After only 2 acupuncture treatments and some Chinese herbs, I was completely pain free for almost three weeks! Although the pain keeps coming back, the only thing that helps alleviate it completely for awhile is acupuncture. After the treatments there is no need for prescription drugs. Even the neurologist agreed that though he did not understand how it works, that it is an effective treatment for pain. So I will keep coming for help.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I am being treated by the doctors for almost 2 years now. When I began my treatment with them I had been suffering with Bilateral carpal tunnel for almost 5 years. And at this time I was being told that there was no hope of me ever gaining the use of my hands again, and that it was something that I would have to learn to live with. By this time my life had almost come to a stand still. I was unable to work or care for my every day needs, I needed help with the smallest of task. None of the many doctors that I was seeing was able to control or stop the PAIN and SWELLING that I was living with every day of my life. When you have the kind of pain I was in for as long as I had to deal with this problem, it began to effect other parts of you body or (health), so needless to say I was not looking at a bright future.

However, at this point a dear friend of mine who also was a co-worker with Dr. Min Shi and Dr. Huifang Zhao had spoken to them on my behalf and they agreed to see me. Now they had to convenience me to have acupuncture treatments. But to their surprise I was more than willing at this point to try anything. But there is no way I could have ever known how these treatments would change my life. In a very short time I could see that it was working and that the swelling was going away, and the pain. What PAIN? I could not believe there was NO PAIN, I had been in pain for so long, it felt strange not to always be in pain any more. Bursitis 

I, along with many others, have received relief from a long-standing  painful condition with the assistance of Dragon Acupuncture.  In my case, it was bursitis which kept me from living a full life.  Regular medical treatment didn't help with it at all.

What I would like to address is the fear which kept me from even trying acupuncture. The idea of needles made me nervous, and I could not imagine saying, "Go head, stick me!"  I thought it would be a prolonged painful session.  Why would I want to do that?

Finally, my chronic pain had me on my knees.  I have a friend who had gotten relief through this method, and I decided it couldn't be worse than what I was going through.

To my true surprise, I was met with a kind, gentle professional who was concerned for my peace of mind.  She made certain that I wasn't rushed into any treatment before I was ready and understood thoroughly the method used.  There wasn't a moment that I had any of the "expected" discomfort.  Quite the contrary, I usually dose off during the treatment.

Fibromyalgia 

As we begin this New Year, I feel compelled to put into writing, a sincere THANK YOU for the incredible results that I have received from your acupuncture treatments. As you know, I have dealt with back and neck issues for most of my adult life, due to a serious car accident in my teens. In addition to that, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about six years ago. At the time that I first came to see you last September, I was experiencing significant joint pain, sleeplessness, heaviness in my chest, hoarseness in my throat, and a general lack of energy.

I really didn’t know what to expect from acupuncture, but having tried just about everything else, I decided to give it a try. It has definitely been one of my better life decisions! Since receiving your treatments on a consistent basis, that heavy fatigue feeling seems to be a thing of the past. My pain is almost non-existent. I sleep will, and enjoy a high energy level most of the time. In general, I feel great!

I was especially impressed that even throughout the busy, stressful holiday season, I was able to avoid a “fibro-flare”. Thanks to you, I have pretty much eradicated the word “Fibromyalgia” from my vocabulary and my life!

Rheumatoid Arthritis

This letter is written to thank you so much for all you have done for me and my condition. At the time that I started to come to you in September of 2003, I was suffering from severe joint pain due to my recent diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. My rheumatologist said that my rheumatoid factor was “off the charts” and he suggested that I start on Plaquenil or Methatrexate to help alleviate my symptoms. After much research on the internet about the side effects of these drugs, I opted to hold off with these medications and look into alternative forms of healing. I told the doctor that I would like to try acupuncture and herbs first, and he was in complete agreement with my decision. This is what brought me to you.

Within several weeks of my first treatment I felt like a new person! I am now able to resume my weight lifting program, my running and yoga. I no longer wake up with flu-like symptoms and pain. With the herbs you have given me, I feel more energy during the day, and a greater ability to fall asleep at night. My rheumatologist is amazed at my progress. In addition, I am no longer taking any kind of over-the-counter pain medication. I am a firm believer that acupuncture in medicine is the way of the future and it is my hope that all western practicing doctors will incorporate this healing modality into their practice.

Multiple Sclerosis 

I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis over eighteen years ago. The disease has progressed over the years causing neurological damage to my brain stem and spinal cord. My current symptoms include severe fatigue, poor balance, cognitive problems, difficulty swallowing, and speech difficulty, among others. My neurologist suggested I see a chiropractor to help me with my neck pain. I began seeing my chiropractor, Dr. Buettner. When I informed her that I've had a constant headache for 14 years due to multiple sclerosis she took note. I didn't think much of it because my neurologist told me the only way I can get rid of the headache was to operate and sever a nerve in my face or continue taking Neurontin or other pain medication. Approximately six weeks after seeing Dr. Buettner, I no longer have a headache. I am like a new person enjoying each and every moment. I am very happy and excited about the day. After successfully treating me for my neck, the chiropractor recommended acupuncture for my other MS symptoms, particularly fatigue.

On August 6, I had my first appointment. The doctor checked my pulse and asked questions regarding my health and current symptoms. Dr. Zhao inserted several needles in my body (head, hands, feet, and stomach). The needles were uncomfortable at first but the pain subsided. Dr. Zhao said if the needles didn't hurt, they wouldn't be in the right spot. The pain subsides after a few seconds/minutes. After 30 minutes, she removed the needles and asked me to return the next day. She prescribed herbs that I am to take three times a day. After my third treatment, there was a dramatic improvement in my fatigue and balance. I was able to walk unassisted. It was like a miracle. I have not been able to walk unassisted for a long time (a year or more). I feel like a new person. I just know that with continued treatment, I am only going to improve with age!!!

I truly believe in alternative medicine. Thank you Dr. Zhao for improving the quality of my life.

Infertility

I am pleased to extend my gratitude to Dr. Zhao for my infertility treatment for 4 weeks. Dr. Zhao has been very attentive, gentle, and care about her patients.

I found out about Dr. Zhao when I searched for acupuncturist nearly my area from Google. I read the testimonies from other patients on the website and it gave me courage to make a phone call and set up an appointment for consultation on that same day. In addition to that, her office happened to be very close to where I work so it is very convenient.

Infertility

My wife and I have been trying to conceive for a year.  We tried naturally and later sought the help of a fertility clinic to help us achieve our little miracle.  At the same time, we realized the stress we were both feeling as we were going through fertility had put a lot of anxiety on us both mentally and physically.  We decided to find an acupuncturist to help us relax as we go thru the fertility treatments.  My wife found Dr. Zhao at Dragon Acupuncture on the web which has great reviews with Dr. Zhao specializing in fertility treatments.

We were delighted to meet Dr. Zhao.  We both found Dr. Zhao to be a very caring, compassionate and kind doctor that wanted us to be successful in starting our family.  We started going to see Dr. Zhao twice a week for about a year and she helped us tremendously in calming our mind and body.

In addition Dr. Zhao also said that she could use acupuncture to help with some of my fertility problems.  Semen analysis done at the fertility clinic showed that while I had a high count, my mobility and morphology was low.  After about 6 months of receiving treatment from Dr. Zhao, both my mobility and morphology had doubled.

After trying fertility treatments a number of times, we decided to try to conceive naturally.   With Dr. Zhao’s help, she was able to help both of us relax and naturally conceive after trying for 3 months.

Infertility and Other Issues 

 

Dr. Zhao is an expert acupuncturist. I can say that because I've treated previously with another acupuncturist for approx. 9 months and in comparison, he was not as skilled as Dr. Zhao, at least when it came to my medical issue. I am 40 years old & treating for infertility. Dr. Zhao not only brought my FSH down to the normal levels, but she also brought my estradiol level down to normal levels, as well as improved the lining of my uterus which of course helps with the implantation of the embryo! This was all within approx. 2 months. Dr. Zhao explained that cramping during periods means that the lining of the uterus is not healthy and cannot easily support implantation of the embryo. With her treatment, ALL my PMS symptoms went away. The previous acupuncturist also brought down my FSH to normal levels, but that caused my estradiol level to go well above the normal levels which in turn almost made me ineligible for IVF. From my research and in talking to my physician, if the FSH or estradiol or both are above normal limits, it means that the quality of the eggs is not good and chances of pregnancy are slim.

Back to Dr. Zhao, she is a true professional who really cares about her patients whole health. When I had unrelated problems with my neck and shoulders, diarrhea (had it for almost 2 months with frequency of 2-3 x a day. She made it go away within a week of treatment & herbs), cold with cough, sore throat (she made it go away in just one visit!), and muscle twitch in my left calf, she treated them all as part of my overall treatment for infertility without charging extra.

When she initially examined me, she also noted that my tongue was black and she said its because of very poor blood circulation, and this would be a major barrier for pregnancy. I did not believe her since I've had this black tongue from childhood. But after a month of treatment and herbs, my tongue is now a very healthy pink! After 40 years of my life, I find out that I actually have a pink tongue! She makes sure the depth of the needle is just right. She monitored my condition at each visit and adjusted the herbal teas according to my IVF schedule, and she took my financial situation into consideration. At my initial visit, when I told her I could not afford to buy the herbal teas from her, she gave me the herbal prescriptions and even told me where I could go to fill them at a much affordable cost. I was really impressed by this because my previous acupuncturist insisted that I could only buy my herbal medicine from him at a very steep price. This was a turning point for me because it made me realize that she wasn't in it for only the money, but she truly cared about the health & well being of her patients and to give them the best care available.

Infertility, Diabetes

I first came to Dragon Acupuncture as a Type 1 diabetic looking to gain better control of my diabetes, as well as looking to conceive a baby. Uterine Bleeding, Irregular Menstration (hydrosalpinx)

I came to Dr. Zhao in January 2009 for a series of "female problems" that I didn't feel were being well managed by western medicine. She began an intensive treatment schedule that resulted in a significant change by the second or third month. Spotting and ovarian pain greatly diminished and over time, the former almost completely disappeared. After 10 months of successful treatment, I underwent a very stressful few weeks when I had to move residences, undergoing all of the financial and physical strain that such a major life change incurs. As a result, I had a relapse. Menstruation began a few days late and then continued long past the normal period. Because I'd moved more than 40 miles away from Dr. Zhao, I tried to find a new practitioner. On day 11 of my period, I went to an acupuncturist in the building where I worked. I saw absolutely no result from her treatment.

Two days later I consulted another acupuncturist -- this one was highly recommended as a specialist in women's health who had many years of experience dealing with gynecological problems. Her first acupuncture and herbal treatment did seem to help slow the blood flow for a day or two, but by Monday I was bleeding profusely. I saw her again on Tuesday morning, and she blamed the relapse on the fact that I'd exercised too much over the weekend. She gave me another treatment and a new set of herbs.

This time, the bleeding did not diminish at all. In fact, it seemed to worsen. I was so upset, I was considering going to a western doctor for progesteron, but called Dr. Zhao first. She urged me to come back to her clinic for treatment because by this time I was on day 19, which was, she said "too much." The highly recommended acupuncturist had seemed not at all concerned that my bleeding was persisting for so long.

Dr. Zho was shocked that the "experienced" doctor had not performed a moxa treatment. She performed an acupuncture treatment and moxa right away, plus gave me a moxa stick to use at home until the bleeding stopped. I could see a difference right away; the bleeding had diminished by about 2/3s. But when I reported the change to Dr. Zhao the next morning, she was not satisfied with the result and told me to use the moxa for an additional hour that day. The treatment worked and the bleeding stopped. By the next day, Saturday, I went to Dr. Zhao for a follow-up treatment and had only minimal spotting. That, too, decreased over the next two days until I had no more discharge. It was a huge relief.

I was so happy to be back in Dr. Zhao's care that I decided not to try to find an acupuncturist closer to my new home. I happily travel almost 100 miles round trip once a week so that I can be in the best hands possible.

In 1999, I underwent surgery to remove uterine fibroids. Five years later, I was trying to have a baby and required a second myomectomy. During this procedure, my surgeon noticed that my fallopian tubes had fused to my ovaries and were filled with fluid, possibly as an aftermath to the prior surgery. It was a condition easily fixed with more surgery, but his center was not willing to perform it for fertility reasons on a woman over 40 and it was otherwise not a serious condition. He recommended IVF with donor eggs as the only solution to my infertility, which was not feasible at the time.

Another five years passed, and during a routine ultrasound to monitor my fibroids, it was discovered that the fluid-filled tubes had developed into true hydrosalpinx; the right one measured almost 9 cm and the left one measured 5 cm. My physician was shocked by the size of the hydrosalpinx, said that they had to "come out," and was surprised that they were not causing me any pain.

After the ultrasound procedure and my physician's reaction, however, my tubes did begin to ache tremendously. I did not have health insurance and did not want to undergo surgery. Instead, I found Dr. Zhao on the internet and consulted with her. She explained that the hydrosalpinx were probably a traumatic reaction to my first surgery, exacerbated by the hormonal imbalances I was experiencing owing to perimenopause. She began treating me three times a week for the first few months, then twice a week and finally once a week, with a combination of acupuncture and herbal teas.

Within a few months, the pain disappeared and my period began to become regular. With the exception of a relapse that occurred during a stressful move, my between-period spotting and prolonged menstruation diminished or ceased. And then, a year after treatment began, a new ultrasound revealed that the hydrosalpinx had completely resolved!

I wish I had learned about the benefits of acupuncture when I was first diagnosed with fertility problems more than 15 years ago. It could have saved me a tremendous amount of pain, discomfort and emotional distress -- and, who knows, I might have even been able to get pregnant.

I would recommend Dr. Zhao to any woman who is experiencing infertility, irregular periods or pain associated with menstruation.

Depression, Headache, Auto injury, Back pain, Quit Smoking

For 10 years I fought a reoccurring overwhelming depression that I blame on hormonal changes, as I am not a depressed person by nature. Tired of this sad, fearful and miserable condition, I was fortunate enough to have stumbled upon Dr. Zhao by some cosmic coincidence perhaps.

I was actually bringing my mother in who had been in a car accident and though there was no medical explanation as to why she was still feeling “wrong”, her equilibrium was off. Her energy was low, her overall disposition not good. She had pretty much exhausted all treatments that Western Medicine had to offer. I’d also be remiss not to mention at that point she was also financially strapped so it was my first indication of what sort of healer Dr. Zhao was when she insisted my mother come in, in spite of her inability to make compensation. I dropped her off and came back 2 hours later only to find that Dr. Zhao still working on her. Finally, just as we were leaving (and by the way, this at 7:30 on a Sat. night) I found myself telling Dr. Zhao how because of my hormonal imbalances I was always feeling sad and fearful for no good reason. I was always a very outgoing and sociable person who couldn’t even stand the phone to ring anymore. In that second I knew I was not getting out of the door so fast. Before I could say, “I’ll think about it and get back to you” she had me on the table like a human pincushion. She also started me on teas and herbs right away. The very next day we went to the beach and I couldn’t believe how I felt. I actually had fun and didn’t spend the day worrying about sharks coming to eat my children or anything. Seriously, it only got better, I started to live again. I am more balanced, calm and happy. I just finally feel normal again.

I should mention that she also healed my mother, who finally, got back to her old self who, by the way, at 73 years old promptly took off again globetrotting as she always does when she’s feeling her old self.

In closing, I would like to mention that I recently missed several appointments, mostly due to being busy, then the holidays. A couple of months had gone by during which time I started to get some premenopausal symptoms, hot flashes and headaches to be precise. I thought nothing would help those headaches short of a full frontal lobotomy. That was 3 days ago. I have been taking my herbs as directed and the headaches are completely gone. Among other things, Dr. Zhao has relieved my upper back pain, helped speedup the healing process for my broken toe, and assisted me greatly when I quit smoking, and achieved great success with our acupuncture face lifts, which is a whole other story!

All in all, her wonderful demeanor, high intelligence, keen instincts, and great sense of humor make it a joy to keep my weekly visits. Not something I do because I have to, but because I want to. I love Dr. Zhao!

Hypertension

While on a checkup with the flu, my M. D. noticed that my blood pressure was a bit high. Dr. Zhao suggested that I take twice-daily measurements in order to be sure that it wasn’t a temporary spike. After this confirmation, she began treating me with acupuncture and herbal supplements, and asked me to continue taking my blood pressure each day. Within three days there was a marked change: my average diastolic B. P. had dropped by 5 points and my average systolic B. P. has also dropped. Within a month, both had dropped to just above normal. If you follow Dr. Zhao’s instructions and have her acupuncture treatment, I think you’ll be very happy with the results you gain in a lower blood pressure.

Asthma/Allergies

Thank you for your help with my asthma/allergies. I have had this issue since childhood (now age 44) and the only relief I thought available was the western way by using prescribed drugs such as inhalers. Also, doctors seemed to bounce me around with different medications and did not seem to care about my complete well being.

At first I was mystified by your treatments and than later in awe of how symptom free I was after 2 months of seeing you. Despite my family having cold/flu, I have not had a cold/flu during this treatment as my immune system is working great. I have not had to use my inhalers and my general health is excellent. You truly care about me and my entire health.

Since going to you it has opened my mind up to alternative methods in dealing with my asthma/allergies. I was a non-believer of alternative care such as acupuncture. You have completely changed my opinion. You are very caring, perceptive and deliver proper treatments.

I hope to spread the word of this “new” treatment to me, but, really it is an “old” treatment that has been around for many, many centuries. I now believe there is true healing in acupuncture.

Asthma, Menstrual Pain, Neck Injury 

After 18 years of struggling with asthma, the doctors visits, the expense and daily medication regime, I am finally free – thanks to you!

When I was diagnosed with asthma at age 23, I was promptly prescribed two types of inhalers for daily use and continued as a slave to those inhalers for 18 long years. My life demanded I move several times over those 18 years and therefore I changed doctors but none of my doctors took the time to talk to me about my condition and treatment options or attempt to cure my illness. Instead, I was regularly expected to participate in a bizarre ritual for my doctors; they would prescribe medication to treat my symptoms (not heal the condition), I would take the medication for another year, then I would visit my doctor to renew the prescriptions. The bizarre part is the visits always consisted of the doctor listening to my breathing for about 10 seconds to determine I still had asthma - as if it could magically disappear by merely treating the symptoms - then the doctor would renew my prescription. Year after year, I was put through the exact same process no matter who my doctor or insurance carrier was. Each month I was forced to struggle with pharmacists to refill my prescriptions.

Meanwhile, I was well aware of the damage the inhalers were causing to my body but I thought I had to endure the long-term damage in order to control the asthmatic symptoms each day. The concept of actually curing my asthma was never introduced to me. That is, until I met one of your students who is a co-worker of mine.

Approximately 6 months prior to my life-changing conversation your student, I had been placed on yet another experimental asthma medication by my doctor. Within a few months of using the new prescription, I was experiencing terrible side effects – a throat infection that affected my voice and unusual bleeding from everywhere. I was expressing my deep concern and utter frustration with western medicine when my friend suggested acupuncture and Chinese herbal tea. I had become quite fearful for my health so I called your office that day and scheduled my first acupuncture appointment.

From the very first phone call with your office, I knew I was on to something completely different. Payment and insurance was not your first priority – rather I was made to feel my health and well-being was more important to you. My health history and beginning an affective treatment were the topics of discussion. My first acupuncture treatment was an incredible experience – both relaxing and rejuvenating. After only four weekly visits, I was able to stop using both inhalers completely – after 18 years of daily medication! It’s been 5 months since I stopped using inhalers and I haven’t felt this good since I was a teenager.

Over the past few months, you’ve helped reduce menstrual pain, repaired a neck injury and reversed the growth of a bunion on my foot. Amazingly, each problem required only one treatment. I want to use the word ‘miracle’ but I don’t think that’s appropriate when used to describe an age-old process like acupuncture. It certainly is a wonder acupuncture isn’t widely accepted and used in the U. S. and the world.

I intend to do everything I can to spread the word and share my good fortune with anyone who’ll listen to my experience. You deserve the highest praise for helping people become whole and healthy again. You will always have my deepest gratitude for what you’ve done for me.

Eczema

I’m writing to say thank you for changing my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but you have done something I thought was impossible. After over 30 years of itching, bleeding, cracking and oozing, my skin is soft and smooth. Before coming to you, I’d been to probably 10 doctors over the span of 20 or so years and tried every kind of cream and ointment from tar-based ointments to steroid ointments. I planned my life around when I could get my next steroid shot or pill, because after a steroid shot, I’d feel good for about 2 weeks. Unfortunately, my doctor told me it wasn’t safe to take a steroid shot more than once every 5 months or so. My wife was also very concerned because she said she could see the side effects of topical steroid use – my skin was starting to look red and thick and kind of like an elephant’s skin.

In other aspects of my life, I have always been very happy. In fact, when my wife would ask me “is there anything you wish was different in your life?” my normal response was “I wish I had someone else’s skin. ”

I came to you because a friend of ours had a small child who also had eczema, but it was only on her hands. She itched and itched until her hands bled. Our friend – the mother- didn’t want her child to use a steroid cream because her daughter still put her hands in her mouth and she was afraid her daughter would eat the steroids by accident. You gave her an herbal ointment- no acupuncture- and within a few weeks, her eczema was completely under control. No itching, no bleeding.

When I heard about how you helped our friend’s daughter, I thought, “I have nothing to lose. ”The last 2 doctors I’d visited (an allergist and a dermatologist) had just told me there was nothing they could do for me because my case was so severe (except give me more steroids).

When I came to you, I was scheduled for a steroid shot within 2 weeks. My condition was as bad as it had ever been. After the first treatment, I admit I was skeptical. I really didn’t feel any different. My wife urged me to go back to you for the second treatment, so I did. You gave me acupuncture, herbal ointments and some herbal medicines to take and within days, I noticed a difference.

By the end of the first week, I could see my skin was starting to clear up. By the second week, I felt so much better that I decided to cancel my steroid shot. By the end of four weeks, my skin was as good as it had ever been – 75% itch free. That was amazing to me, and I would have been happy if that’s all we achieved. But I am grateful that 75% wasn’t good enough for you. It’s been 3 months now, and I am almost completely itching free. I no longer wake my wife up at night with the sound of my itching, I no longer have open sores on my body, and I no longer cringe when people touch my skin. My wife says my skin is just like that of a newborn baby’s!

I sleep so much better and I feel so much better. I no longer wish for someone else’s skin – because I have the skin I always dreamed of, without any nasty side effects from medication.

Thank you so much Dr. Zhao. You’ve changed my life with your treatments and I will always be grateful.

Weight loss, Sleep Apnea

I wanted to express my gratitude for your excellent efforts in treating me for weight loss & my sleep apnea issues.

As you may remember, I came to you in February 2007, after being diagnosed as having sleep apnea. The sleep specialist doctor that I was referred to said that I was the 'ideal body type to have sleep apnea & that the only treatment was to use a C-PAP breathing machine. This doctor said it would take only 9 to 18 months to learn how to lay flat on my back & wear a mask to sleep. I asked about other options, he said there were not.

Since my wife had such great results with your treatment of her headaches, I thought I'd ask for your help with weight loss & apnea issues.

From February to June 2007, I was treated by you & lost over 60 pounds with a combination of acupuncture & herbs from your office. I was concerned that my weight was dropping too fast, sometimes 5 pounds a week. However, you were comfortable with the rate of weight loss. My weight is now stable at 185 pounds & my oxygen intake is at an acceptable level while sleeping.

I have recommended Dragon Acupuncture to friends & associates when traditional medicine has not worked for them. I now come to Dragon acupuncture before methods of traditional medicine.

Foot Drop, Gastritis

During the past year I had two difficult medical problems:
1 was diagnosed with Foot Drop., a condition where I could not lift my left foot. It was caused by a problem with a nerve in my back going down to my left knee controlling the action of my foot.

I was also diagnosed with Gastritis, a painful and uncomfortable condition of the stomach.
For both conditions, my Internist could do nothing for the Gastritis other than recommend a change of diet. I was told Foot Drop could take one to two years to correct, or possibly may never correct to normal.
Prof. Huifang Zhao cured my Gastritis after three treatments. Prof. Huifang Zhao, after nine treatments, brought the use of my left foot back to normal, with no recurring Foot Drop symptoms.
With this excellent care, my problems have been taken care of, and I am most appreciative to Prof. Min Shi and her staff. They treated me in a most professional manner. The staff is very pleasant to work with.

Skin Itching, Nerve Pain

I was first introduced to the Dragon Acupuncture & Herb Center through another clinic of theirs who had gone to them for chronic pain. I went to clinic because of a rash I had that covered my body. I found relief from the constant itching with their herbs and my first sessions with Dr. Huifang Zhao.  With time, the whole rash gradually faded away, leaving me with no detrimental side effects that sometimes occur with other treatments.
My next sessions with the Dragon Acupuncture Clinic were for damaged nerve which caused me intense pain from my spine around my shoulder blade and into my breast.  Dr. Zhao was once again able to bring me relief to this old problem through regular acupuncture sessions and advice about things I could do to help myself at home.

Acid Reflux

Stress, Acid reflux and Heartburn

Having just sold my business after eight years and starting back to school for a master’s program, my stress level was pretty high and my acid reflux and heartburn were horrible. Over the counter drugs upset my stomach even more. I started having acupuncture treatment from Dr. Zhao mainly to get rid of the reflux. In addition to acupuncture, she recommended a specific mix of herbs to make into a tea, and I drink that three times per day. Right away after starting the tea, the reflux decreased in frequency. Within a few weeks, most of it had disappeared with only an occasional flare-up, even though I had final exams to fret about. My stress level seems lower, too.
